Fourth Meeting - Enduring Love

Our book this month was Enduring Love by Ian McEwan. There has been a recent film of the book, Directed by Roger Michell and starring Daniel Craig, Samantha Morton and Rhys Ifans.

Enduring Love

I felt that the book worked on three levels; the story of an 'ordinary' man thrown into an extraordinary situation and the events that unfold, the 'enduring loves' of the central characters for one another and the eternal debate between classical (thinking, logic) and romantic (perceiving, emotional) when disturbed by an irrational (religious, mad) outsider.

Our discussion ranged widely around these themes, and whilst we found a few flaws in the final third of the book, we all felt it to be a beautifully crafted piece.
